June #IWSG: I Quit (Just Kidding)

First Wed of Every Month

This month's Question: Did you ever say "I quit"? If so, what happened to make you come back to writing?

Every. Single. Day.

My crazy life includes two teenage boys, an eight-year-old princess, and enough stress to fill an entire galaxy. Of course, I want to quit some days. Then I stop whining and plunk down in front of my laptop and begin again. Did I mention I have two teenagers in the house? Now there's an endless supply of writerly inspiration. Paybacks are wonderful.

Writing always snaps me out of my notion to resign. When everyday life squeezes in and knocks me off center, I fight back. I'm a writer. Quitting isn't an option for me. I love what I do.

Don't give up, people!

And don't be afraid to take a break. It's summer for Pete's sake. Get out and live. Life moves too fast. Ferris Bueller, anyone? Oh, boy.

Found this gem of a waterfall about a mile from my house. Sometimes you just need a change of scenery or to send those kids to summer camp or to send your hubs off on a fishing trip. By the way, he's caught some amazing fish this week.

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer break!

  1. I'm in awe of people who can raise a family (especially with teens in the house) and still find time to write. Gorgeous waterfall :-)

  4. Sometimes our responsibilities pile high and we are land under but it is good to know that we have something that can help us deal with the stress. At least that is what writing does for me.
Wishing you time to write in a quiet place.
    All the best.

    1. Quiet place. Hmm. Does that exist with kids? I might send myself to summer camp.

  5. Giving yourself permission to take a break is huge. It's way worse to struggle to get something done when life is getting in the way!

  6. Teenage years are demanding, eh? You'd think it would be the opposite--that they're somewhat independent now. LOL.

    1. Believe it or not, there is more to worry about. Driving, jobs, pulling pranks. Did I mention driving??

    2. Pulling pranks...now where did they learn that from???

    3. Amen on the driving thing. We're finally about ready for my oldest to get his license (meaning he doesn't give me a heart attack every time he drives), but the idea of him driving solo terrifies me.

  7. Not quitting but taking a break is important. A big difference between the two. We should keep on keeping on, but take breaks to rejuvenate.

  9. Ah yes, the joys of teenagers. They're great fodder for writing.

  10. Kids will keep you running, so hats off to anyone who's a parent and can still carve out time to write.

  11. Life sure moves fast, can't spend all time writing. haha writing used as payback for teenagers, I'll remember that one.

  15. Getting out and living a little is just as essential for our writing as, well, writing.

  16. Hi Jennifer - I need a husband who will go out and catch fish! The thing is all your notes and start-ups could well be the basis for a series once life settles a bit, then you can start on your Princess series!! I'd never heard of Ferris Bueller ... I have now - the thought is fun ... cheers Hilary

  17. Sometimes writing is a sprint, sometime it's slogging through a foot of mud. Keep at it, and take the breaks when you need to.

  18. I know what you mean. I was going to write like mad on Friday, but it was sunny and 70 degrees, so I took a long bike ride instead. Couldn't pass that opportunity up. I did actually get back to the computer to work that evening which rarely happens. Kids = energy vampires.

  19. That's a great attitude. We won't have any fuel for writing if we don't have those fun experiences!

  20. How lovely to find such a stunning waterfall right by you house! AMAZING... Glad you keep on writing...

LOL. Yes, I believe teenagers would be an incredible source for you.
